About Us

Our History

From a single travel team to a county-wide association.

  1. 1996

    The first team

Local attorneys Larry Heim and Judy Shopp gathered 25 boys from five high schools into a travel team coached by Bill Middleton, competing well against Harrisburg and Lancaster area squads.

  2. 1998

    Growing the game

Bob Rhein took over coaching and launched a grassroots push — shooting contests at church carnivals and free fall clinics across the county.

  3. 1998–2001

    Explosive growth

Participation jumped from 25 to 80 to 160 to 300 boys in just a few seasons.

  4. 2001

    Community clubs

The original York Lacrosse Club split into eight community-run clubs, including Biglerville in Adams County, playing round-robin as the York County Lacrosse League.

  5. 2005

    The YCLA is born

The York County Lacrosse Association replaced the League, and its 11 charter members adopted formal bylaws — a milestone for youth lacrosse in the county.
